Introduction
For those intending to take the GMAT exam in the future, it's essential to be aware that the test is about to undergo changes. The GMAT exam, administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), will have a new format introduced later this year, and the existing format will gradually be phased out by early 2024.
Everything you need to know about the new GMAT pattern;
Here’s a list of necessary changes that are being implemented in the GMAT exam that every GMAT aspirant must be aware of :-
1. Shorter Test Duration
In the upcoming GMAT pattern, the test duration will be shorter, resulting in a more precise evaluation. The new format will also eliminate non-essential items, allowing the test to concentrate on vital skills and knowledge, ensuring that candidates' performance is more accurately measured.
2. Analytical Writing Assessment Section Dropping
In the upcoming GMAT pattern, the analytical writing assessment section will no longer be included. This section was designed to assess the candidate's ability to think critically, organize thoughts, and express ideas effectively. Its removal means that future test-takers will not be required to complete this segment, and the exam's duration will be shorter as a result.
3. Introduction of 'Data Insights' Section
The upcoming GMAT pattern will feature a new section called “data insights”, along with the quantitative and verbal reasoning sections. The new format will focus on evaluating skills that are most relevant to top graduate business programs. The 'data insights' section will draw on some of the previous content on integrated reasoning and data sufficiency and will test the candidate's ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets.
4. Other Information
The GMAT preparatory materials for the new pattern will be available by the end of the second quarter of the year, and registration for the new exam will be permitted from the third quarter onwards. Candidates can take the new test by the end of this year, with ample time for preparation.
Conclusion
To sum up, the GMAT exam is set to undergo significant changes in the coming year, with a shorter test duration, removal of non-essential items, and the addition of a new 'data insights' section. These changes aim to evaluate candidates' performance more accurately and focus on the skills that are most relevant to top graduate business programs. Aspiring test-takers should take note of these changes, and the preparatory materials will be available by the end of the second quarter, providing ample time for preparation.
