Updated: Mar 30, 2023

The United States of America, the Land of Dreams, is undoubtedly one of the most desired locations for Indian students to advance their careers. With an excellent alumni network, world-class academic facilities and opportunities to develop a massive lifestyle change, the USA has always been a popular choice for students all around the globe.

But many dreams seem to take a back seat due to financial constraints. We have listed below the top 5 scholarships you can apply for, being an Indian student and studying abroad in the USA to solve the problem.

  • Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program

A popular government-funded scholarship under Fulbright Program provides young or mid-level experienced professionals with an opportunity to enroll in a non-degree graduate study in the USA for ten months. The non-degree studies will enable you to have professional networking, practical work and conferences for professional development. A first bachelor degree, a minimum of five years of work experience, a record of community service and demonstrated leadership skills, and a good TOEFL score. The scholarship will cover your tuition fees, pre-academic English language training (if required), living and settling allowance, emergencies coverage, air travel expenses, and allowance for professional activities ( field trips, conferences etc.). The Application deadline is usually October 1, but do check the website regularly.

  • Fulbright Nehru Fellowship Program

The Fulbright Fellowships supports foreign exchange programs for academically brilliant students to pursue a 1-2 years professional degree in the States. One such fellowship benefitting Indian Students is the Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship which covers the tuition fees, living costs, air-fares monthly stipend and sickness coverage as per USA guidelines. The students who wish to enroll in masters or a PhD program in selected American universities can avail themselves of the scholarship. The selected candidates are informed latest by March-April of the following year.

  • Cornell University Tata Scholarship

The program will cover the tuition fees and an estimated living cost. You also have to fill the CSS (College Scholarship Service) Profile to determine your scholarship amount. Pay close attention to the deadlines as they have separate deadlines for early, regular and transfer admissions.

  • Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarship

Inlaks Foundation rewards outstanding young Indians with scholarships, grants and awards to develop their careers in India and abroad.
