A popular destination to study abroad, Canada, is the crowd favourite because of its over the top hospitality, efficiency and non-complex facilities and a flexible post-study work visa. If you’re worried about your finances while applying to Canadian Universities, here is a list of scholarships you can consider using.
Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program
Jointly funded by the Province of Ontario and the University of Toronto, OGS is a merit-based scholarship for graduate students awarded to academically excellent domestic and international candidates. The scholarship is limited to 2 years for masters and four years for doctoral programmes with $5000 per session. You must have maintained an A- (or equivalent) during your graduation, should have accepted an offer letter from a university, and have obtained a valid study permit. It is advised that you check the deadlines with the graduate unit you affiliate with since they vary.
Quebec Provincial Government Scholarship
Exclusively for those who wish to study in Quebec, this is a merit scholarship program for International students to pursue vocational training, technical training at the college level, or a university. Indians benefit from this scheme because candidates from developing nations of Asia (India, China, and Japan) are given priority. The scholarship varies with courses, $14000-$26000 for vocational training, $14000 for college students and $25000(renewable) or $35000(non-renewable) with a $1000 monthly allowance for doctoral awardees. It covers your differential tuition fees, health insurance and other financial assistance during studies. Eligibility is assessed solely based on citizenship and merit.
Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship
If you have achieved a first-class average in your post-graduation and are already selected for a doctoral degree in the field of natural, medical, social or engineering discipline in any institute in Canada, you are eligible to apply. You should already have your thesis/research topic well-defined and must be from a developing nation. Students exhibiting leadership skills, high academic performance and research potential are front runners for the candidature. Deadlines are clearly defined in the websites, which you have to follow without laxity, but be ready with your application before July. The scholarship fund is $50,000 per year for three years.
Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship
Suppose you are accepted into a full-time, two-three years of doctoral programme, with your work relating to Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada and the World, people, and their natural environment, then this scholarship is for you. In that case, this scholarship is for you. You should display academic excellence and intelligence, strong leadership and community involvement with a research background. You are supported with up to $40,000 per year for three years to cover tuition fees, with an additional $20,000 each year to fulfil learning language, accommodation and travel needs. You can visit their websites to see the process explained in detail.
A few necessary points to be noted before applying to any Canadian Scholarship programme are that having a solid academic record, appropriate work experience, and more substantial proficiency scores in IELTS/TOEFL will increase your odds of receiving the grants.
