How do I get a scholarship?

Last year alone, approximately 24,000 colleges in and around the US accepted international students. Out of which roughly one third (around 8000) reported awarding some form of scholarship (need-based, merit-based, etc) to enrolled international students, which amounted to roughly around $ 1.2 billion.

There are mainly two routes to get a scholarship for the program that you are applying for. The first is through the college itself. The second is by separately applying for scholarships through individual sponsors.
To avail scholarships by the college, a student should highlight the need for the same in his/her application. The student may be asked to write an essay highlighting his/her needs and state reasons that would
strengthen his/her case. Individual academic excellence and aptitude displayed by your SAT score, your school GPAs, your extracurricular activities, etc are important factors taken into consideration before the
scholarship is awarded to you.

For the second one, you are required to apply separately. There are several sponsors in the US that provide scholarships to international students. They have their own set of criteria. However, it is important to note that individual sponsors may provide just one-time scholarship (as opposed to each year's scholarship granted by the college).
